Wardrobe Planning: Amy

Before filming, I collaborated with my actresses on finding outfits that they felt best suited their characters.

For the main character Amy, we decided to pick a fun and playful outfit that still wasn't too loud. We chose a blue Strawberry Shortcake shirt and simple jean shorts. The understatedness of the outfit matches the character's introverted, quiet personality. The fun t-shirt along with star-shaped blemish patches reflects her naivety and reminds viewers that she is young. The film is set during the summer, so we also decided to give her an outfit suited for warm weather.

For makeup, we wanted it to be clear that the actress was wearing makeup, but for it to still seem subtle to match her personality.. We gave her mascara and a slightly darker lip. This look represents the character wearing a mask and closing herself off from the people and world around her in a way that may not be apparent to everyone.

Amy's Opening Makeup Look

Had this been a feature-length film, I would have progressively dressed the actress in more mature clothing as the character grew throughout the film. When Amy finally feels free and happy at the end of the movie, I wouldn't give her makeup to symbolize her confidence and security in herself.
